Car crashes into fence, tree

3 occupants escape with injuries, vehicle turns into a total wreck.

Vijayawada: In a bizarre incident, a speeding car veered into a fence, uprooting three pillars, hit a tree and managed to uproot it too, before crashing into the ground and becoming a crumpled wreck on the National Highway 5 near Veterinary Colony on Monday.

Fortunately, the three young occupants of the car manage to escape with non-life threatening injuries. Two of the three youths, K. Raja Ajay, 25 and Chandu, 26 of Mangalagiri were said to be out of danger while D. Ranjith, 30, is still undergoing treatment in hospital.

“The over-speeding car bearing registration number AP 16 CE 3359 veered into the fencing on the roadside and mowed down 3 pillars. It then hit a tree and shot up in the air to about 15 feet even as the tree was uprooted,” said Machavaram inspector Ch. Murali Krishna, after speaking to eyewitnesses.

“The accident was clearly due to over-speeding and it is fortunate that no was severely injured,” Murali Krishna added. The three youths had borrowed the car from their friend G. Markandeyulu of Vijayawada and were on their way to a showroom on the Ring Road to purchase a car. Ranjith was driving the car.

Damodar, an eyewitness told this correspondent that there was a dip in the road just before the spot where the car veered off. “The sudden dip may have left the driver in panic,” Damodar said. The car is believed to have been hurtling well over 100 kmph at the time.

Machavaram police registered a case. “We are also checking if the driver was drunk,” said Murali Krishna. Police also suspects that the driver might have pulled the wrong lever instead of the handbrake in panic.?
