Petition challenging Vijay’s Jilla dismissed
Chennai: Fans of action hero, Vijay, can now look forward to seeing his latest film ‘Jilla’ as a Chennai court on Thursday dismissed a petition challenging the title of the movie scheduled to hit screens across the state and outside on Friday.
In his petition, the proprietor of Sowmita Sri Arts, R Mahendran, said he had dubbed the Telugu movie, Bhageeratha, in Tamil and released it in the state as ‘Jilla’. The title was registered with the Film and Television Producers’ Guild of South India in May 2008 and the Central Board of Film Certification had issued it a certificate the same month. The film was released in several theatres across Tamil Nadu and he was waiting to release it in other states as well.
He said having come across an advertisement for the Vijay starrer ‘Jilla’ in a newspaper recently, he had approached its producer, Super Good Films and others concerned asking them to change its title. But as he had received no response, he had no choice but seek a stay on the film’s release, he told the XVI City Civil Court.
Judge R. Naraja, however, dismissed petition saying Mahendran could have approached the court earlier and not waited till a day before the release of the film to act against it. At this point a stay would cause huge financial loss to the makers of the film, he noted.
