Mohanlal’s proud ‘daughter’

With Drishyam becoming a mega hit, Ansiba Hassan could not have asked for a better debut in Mollywood.

Ansiba Hassan is all excited and happy about the success of 'Drishyam', her debut movie in Mollyood. She is getting wide recognition for portraying Mohanlal’s elder daughter. “As the dialogue in 'Drishyam' puts it — ‘tension and fear lead to danger’ — the state of my mind was no far different from that when I came to know about my role in 'Drishyam'. It was my first ever project with Lalettan and I have every reason to be excited as well as frightened,” says Ansiba.

However, for Ansiba, working with Lalettan was dream come true. “Jeethu sir called me for the role of Anju George after seeing a still from one of my Tamil movies. After the screen test and talks with Jeethu sir, he told me that I had to do the role of a Class XI student and at that time, I was doing my final year degree. I doubted if I was suitable for the role. Unexpectedly, Jeethu sir put me on the role which was actually a milestone for my career,” muses Ansiba.

Sharing her experience with Mohanlal, she says, “He is a legendary actor, always encouraging on the sets and supports new comers. He always keeps his co-stars in a comfort zone. In fact, just like in the movie, we all are like family now.”

For her, playing Mohanlal’s daughter was most challenging. “When Jeethu sir described the character, the principal thing he said to me was that after Mohanlal’s character, Georgekutty, my character Anju George is the prominent one. Thus, my responsibility was huge and I took it as a privilege. Jeethu sir gave me a copy of the script so that I can thoroughly learn it and mould my character.”

She says that she is close to her family and at times, she felt homesick during the shoot of 'Drishyam'. “My mother always accompanied me on the shoot, but I cannot get over myself from being home sick. Home is always a weakness for me,” says Ansiba, who is based in Kozhikode.

Her two Tamil movies are gearing up for release. “I have done four Tamil movies so far and I am waiting for its release. After 'Drishyam', I haven’t committed any Malayalam movie and really thrilled to do more movies here,” she signs off on a positive note.
