Vijayawada to get future-proof plan
Vijayawada: With speculation gaining ground that Vijayawada city, or its vicinity, may be selected to form the capital of residuary AP, the VGTM-Urban Development Authority plans to ensure that the infrastructure is in place to meet any requirement.
The VGTMUDA will develop a Master Plan and a Zonal Development Plan to meet the?requirements of?the city till 2031, said authority chairman V. Srinivasa Reddy on Thursday.
Srinivasa Reddy was speaking to the media after an introductory meet on the Master Plan?that was held here on Thursday. The VGTM-UDA chairman said that the?area under the Master Plan was extended to 5,108.90 sq km from the?existing 1,954.64 sq km.
He said that the responsibility of preparing the Master Plan has been entrusted?to Aarvee Associates, which would have to submit the draft within?24 months.
Srinivasa Reddy said that the proposals would be sent to government after receiving the draft Master Plan. He?appealed to people living in the villages surrounding the city to come out with their?suggestions on development of?their regions.
Earlier, addressing the meeting, district collector M. Raghunandana?Rao asked the officials to submit their feedback on the proposed?developments in the areas they are responsible for, to prepare the Master Plan.
He told the officials?to share their information for preparation of the Master Plan. Raghunandana Rao said?officials should identify the areas of development in the UDA’s extended limits, including transport, industrial and other sectors.
With the VGTM-UDA deciding to extend the area of the Master Plan, Gudivada, Nuzvid, Vuyyur, Nandigama in Krishna district and Ponnur, Sattenapalli in Guntur district will come under UDA limits.
The Master Plan study would guide various proposals with possible?solutions on relevant issues like orderly urban growth, eco-friendly?investment opportunities for industries, intracity transportation,?mass transport connectivity, conservation of water bodies, heritage,?historical monuments, safeguarding environmental sensitive areas and?protection of hinterland, agricultural land and promotion of tourism.
The consultants of the project would conduct ground truth survey for?capturing land use and building footprint. They will conduct a sample?socio-economic survey to get feedback from the people on their area and?perceptions on development.
The agency would get satellite imagery of the development area,?digitisation of villages, towns and superimposition of village and town?maps.
The agency would collect views and suggestion of Vision 2030,?priorities of satellite towns and growth centres, transportation plan?for road network, development strategy, zoning regulations and capital investment plan.
The agency would prepare a draft Master Plan and Zonal Development Plan?and assist the UDA in notification and finalisation of final draft?Master Plan and Zonal Development Plan. VGTM-UDA vice-cha-irman M. Rama Rao and?others were present.
