Arvind Kejriwal to contest Lok Sabha polls?
New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is being branded as the third man in the Prime Ministerial race, is all set to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections. Sources said the Aam Aadmi Party founder would start campaigning for the coming Parliamentary elections from March.
Kejriwal, who had earlier said that he was not going to contest the Lok Sabha elections, has now left it is to the AAP’s Political Affairs Committee to take a call on this matter. A majority of the senior AAP leaders are of the view that Kejriwal should be declared the prime ministerial candidate. “He is the face of the party. By declaring him our PM candidate will infuse energy in our supporters,” a senior AAP leader told DC.
Sources said some senior AAP leaders have advised Mr Kejriwal not to make any announcement about his contest before the media. “First, we want to gain momentum. Then, we will make the crucial announcement at an appropriate time.”
Sources said Kejriwal would campaign for the Lok Sabha elections after two months. A senior AAP leader said Kejriwal’s first priority was to put an efficient mechanism in place to run the Delhi government. “He wants to concentrate on Delhi in the next two months. This is a historic occasion for him to prove that one can run an efficient government.”
Sources said that no decision has been taken on the constituency where from Kejriwal was going to contest the coming elections. “There are chances that he may contest from any of the seven seats in Delhi only. “
A close confidant of Kejriwal said that the AAP founder could contest from his New Delhi Lok Sabha seat. “But some AAP leaders want him to contest against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narender Modi. Let’s see how things shape up.”
