Hyderabad: The Aam Aadmi Party’s first public meeting in the state saw protests over its support for Telangana statehood.

Speaking to a 1,000-strong gathering, AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said, “The basic idea of the AAP is to fight for issues that are genuinely of the people’s concern.

We support smaller states, as there is decentralisation of power. However, it does not end with the formation of Telangana. We need decentralisation till the grass-root level.” This led to protests, and many persons in the audience started raising United AP?slogans.

Asked about Seemandhra, he said, “I want to assure people of the Andhra region that our party will work hard for the rights of people of all regions.”

Earlier, Bhushan inaugurated the AAP’s state campaign committee office. RTI activist Ramkrishna Raju will play a key role in setting up the election committee.

Rightwing activists shouted slogans against Bhushan for his recent remarks on Kashmir. They were taken away by the police.
