Strum cards at Stormfield

Music lovers will head to the city at the end of the month to attend the biggest music camp-out music fest

What began as a camp-out music festival in Coorg, has grown into a fest that no music lover would want to miss. Come January end, Bengaluru will be host to one of the biggest camp-out music fests of the year. So what’s in store at the Storm Festival 2014? Well, it’s brewing full steam and the high-octane line-up includes over 40 artistes, five vivacious stages, four collaborations, three days of music, adventure and three nights of camping to reward your wanderlust.

The big collaborations you can watch out for are Shankar Mahadevan meets Shankar Tucker, Tetseo Sisters, Lesle Lewis and the GenX, Thermal and a Quarter and more. The not-to-be-missed acts include Susheela Raman, Raghu Dixit, Thermal and a Quarter, Swarathma, Avial, Aurko and international acts like Luciano, Eddie Halliwel and many others.

Apart from Mahadevan being the face of the festival, he’s also going all out to unravel hidden musical gems from across the world. “I was surprised to learn that India has a festival where music lovers can camp-out amidst tight security. The experience is so energising that you want to come back to the festival every year. I’m happy to be a part of this beautiful festival, which is truly a musician’s paradise with great talent from India and across the world,” states Shankar Mahadevan.

Looking forward to take Bengaluru by Storm is Lavin Uthappa, Festival Director, Storm Festival and MD Liquidspace Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. He says, “Storm third edition will be replete with surprises. Musically, there will be the best of mainstream entertainment in beautiful natural environs.”

Susheela Raman who will be playing with Kutle Khan from Jaislamer, who is an amazing collaborator, says, “Music is not a synthetic thing put together in a laboratory, it’s a live experiment onstage — quite raw, unstable and dangerous. I hope festivals contribute to a breaking of barriers between musical genres, abolish these barriers which are all fictitious. Rock musicians, folk musicians and classical musicians all have a lot to learn from each other.” Adds Filterheadz, an energetic Belgian Techno duo of brothers, Bert and Maarten Wilmaers, “We have done several gigs in the country and it’s always been a wonderful experience. We are expecting great things from this festival as well.” All roads will lead to the Stormfields at Sarjapura Hobli on January 31.
