Saran's philosophy of acting
Actor Saran says the best teacher is the man on the street… and all it takes is the power of observation.
“Acting has helped me become a better human being. The more I involve myself in acting, the more I discover myself and the world,” smiles Saran.
The Chumma-fame actor, better known as Tony among youngsters and popular among the theatre fraternity of Kerala for conducting theatre training camps for kids, is on cloud nine after signing five films on the trot!
“When it rains, it pours. Acting was the only choice for me since my childhood and I am here now with a bunch of films,” quips Saran. The Thrissur Drama School product will be a part of Dr. Biju’s next film Painting Life, K.R. Harikumar’s Adaminte Aadya Pranayam, Sunil Linus’ Kosarakolli, MubÂin Rouf’s Vayanashala Junction and Anil Sign and Jayakrishnan’s Mirror.
“The best thing about my good fortune is that the five roles I have bagged are entirely different from each other. I do not want to be pigeon-holed and that was the biggest reason for not taking on offers. My character Tony in Chumma was much appreciated and many prefer to see me as fun-loving, easygoing brat but I do not want to see myself as ‘Tony’ over and over again.” Saran will be acting as a collegian along with Maniyan Pilla Raju’s son in Adaminte Aadya Pranayam and as an athlete in Mirror. “In Kosarakolli, I will be seen as a local ‘freak’ auto driver, a tech-savvy guy in Painting Life and in a negative role in Vayanashala Junction,” he explains.
Saran calls himself as an exclusive actor who loves to do character roles like Johny Depp, Irfan Khan and Thilakan. “The street is my biggest teacher and I love observing and learning from the multitude of emotions and body languages I find there. We can discover anything and everything on street, if we keep our eyes wide open.”
The ambitious actor, who is an active member of Trivandrum Mime House, is pursuing his M. Phil in theatre at School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur. “Body language is an important aspect in acting and I believe that an actor can consciously develop his unique style if they really observe themselves and others,” says Sharan.
