SI wins President’s medal posthumously
Chennai: Sub-inspector T. Alwin Sudhan, who was murdered in Sivagangai district in 2012, while on bandobust duty during the Thevar jayanti celebrations, will be posthumously awarded the police medal for gallantry by the Government of India on Republic Day. The SI was one among the 25 officers selected from the state for medals to be conferred by the President of India.
Alwin Sudhan, 26 then, and new to the service had barely three months of experience when he was stabbed to death by a mob. He and his team had intercepted their vehicle for a check. Following Sudhan’s murder, two of the suspects in the case were killed in an encounter by the police.
Other senior officers from the city who will receive the police medal for distinguished service are Sanjay Arora, ADGP, Operations; Sunil Kumar, ADGP, TN Police Transport Corporation and Md. Shakeel Akhter, IG, headquarters, a release said.
Twenty one officers of other ranks have been selected for the police medal for meritorious service, the release added. They include R. Dhinakaran, JCoP, traffic (south), Chennai; S. Panneerselvam, DCoP, traffic (west), Chennai, C. Cruz Michael and S. Justin Devadoss, deputy commandant and inspector, TSP XII battalion, Manimuthar; DSP C. Pauline, and SSI V. Boopalan from Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Chennai; C. Charles, assistant commandant, and C. Lakshmikanthan, inspector of Tamil Nadu special police III battalion, Veerapuram.
Others who find place in the list are: S. Sundaravadivel, DSP, Cuddalore sub-division; J. Udaya Sankar, DSP, vigilance and anti-corruption, Cuddalore; M. Kummaraja, inspector, Manapparai PS; N. Gajapathy, inspector, Kannagi Nagar, Chennai police; T. Udaya Sankar, inspector, anti-dacoity cell, Chennai; Velan Subramani, inspector, Chunambedu police station, Kancheepuram district; J. Nagarajan, inspector, Tirupur North PS, Tirupur district; A. Sadasivam, inspector, vigilance and anti-corruption, Coimbatore; M. Bakkiammal, SI, AWPS, T. Nagar, Chennai; R. Sankaravadivelu, SSI, district special branch, Thanjavur district; G. Rajaram, SSI, Teynampet, Chennai; S. Subramanian, SSI, Vadapalani, Chennai; C. Sobhanan, SSI, vigilance and anti-corruption, Coimbatore, are the others who would be receiving the award.
