T Subbarami Reddy rewarded for his contribution to party
Hyderabad: Dr T. Subbarami Reddy is a multifarious personality. He is one of the leading industrialists, renowned film maker, philanthropist and parliamentarian. He is the founder of the Gayatri Group, which has been in existence since the last 35 years.
Dr Reddy is the founder of the country's best cinema theatres, which were built in Hyderabad. He was born to T. Babu Reddy and Rukminamma, at Nellore, on September 17, 1943.
Dr Reddy is a commerce graduate. He completed his B.Com at Nizam College, Hyderabad. He received a gold medal from the then Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi for his great contribution towards building the world’s biggest dam, Nagarjunasagar, in 1967.
Dr Reddy was the chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), National Panorama Festival Committee in 1992, National Film Award Jury in 1994 and 1997, Andhra Pradesh Cultural Federation in 1994 and member, and the Central Board of Film Certification (1983-85).
Dr Reddy is a member of the Parliament, representing the state in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha since 1996. He was elected to 11th and 12th Lok Sabha twice, in 1996 and 1998, from Visakhapatnam constituency. He was elected as Rajya Sabha member in 2002.
Dr Reddy was a member of various parliamentary committees. He was also the minister of state in the ministry of mines between 2006 and 2008. He was re-elected to Rajya Sabha in August 2008.
