Power cuts: Bescom’s app will alert you
Bangalore: Bangaloreans are fed up of two constants in their lives – power outages and the ‘suddenness’ of them. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) has come up with a novel idea of keeping its consumers informed about the power situation in their area and how to access help in case of a power-related emergency at the press of an icon on their mobile phones.
“We receive a number of complaints from angry consumers on ‘sudden’ power outages. Though we provide information through a media release in newspapers, many a time people miss them. We have hence decided to keep our customers informed about the power outages directly through their phones, so that they can plan their day accordingly.
We are creating a new mobile application, which would be available free of charge on android phones. People can download the application on their phones and furnish their RR number (their electricity meter number) with which they will be identified and kept informed about the power outages through SMS.
This is to avoid any public inconvenience. They can also register their complaints at the nearest Bescom office with the application and get an immediate response,” said Managing Director, Bescom Pankaj Pandey.
He added that the facility will soon be provided to all mobile phone providers. “The application will be linked to our server and will be facilitated through the Department of E-governance,” he said.
