SanDisk recently announced the "world's first" 128GB microSD card designed for Android smartphones and tablets at the Mobile World Congress.
As reported by the Enquirer, the Class 10 SDXC UHC-1 SanDisk Ultra card can hold up to 16 hours of full HD videos, up to 7,500 songs or up to 3,200 photos in the fingernail-sized chip.
SanDisk claims that the flash card can deliver twice the speed of a standard SD card. It has been built specifically for use in Android smartphones and tablets and is expected to be compatible with any device supporting SDXC cards. The device stacks 16 memory dies vertically within it, each thinner than a single strand of hair, which allows more storage to be squeezed into the space of the microSD form-factor.
"The new SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card again demonstrates how SanDisk continues to expand the possibilities of storage so that consumers can benefit from our latest technology advancements," said Susan Park, SanDisk director of retail product marketing. "With 128GB of removable storage, consumers will enjoy the freedom to capture and save whatever they want on a smartphone or tablet, without worrying about running out of storage space."
The Enquirer also mentioned as the second big announcement for SanDisk this month, following its announcement of the "world's fastest" SD card.
Last year, SanDisk's released the fastest Extreme microSD card, but not in a 128GB capacity. The 128GB capacity microSD card will be available for around £120 (approx Rs 12,500). SanDisk has assured that it will go on sale worldwide soon.
