It’s an important tournament for India whose performance has not been great in recent times. A good tournament will help the team’s confidence in a massive way as they are in the early stages of a long and tough season ahead. They were in Bangladesh for two weeks and although they didn’t win the tournament they fought hard and would be satisfied with their competitive attitude in the park.
They will now go back stronger to Bangladesh with the inclusion of Yuvraj, Raina, Dhoni, who are dangerous players in this format. All the three will come back hungry after not figuring the Asia Cup squad and it’s a good sign for the team. Dhoni will also come back after a much needed break and will be keen to get the best out of his team in conditions which are friendly to them. Dhoni needs to get himself going for this tournament because he is a game changer and his good run of form can be of vital importance to this team. Also he and Fletcher need to be a bit flexible with the team as they need to play different brand of T20and think out of the box.
India’s T20 performance in the last championships in England, West Indies and Sri Lanka were not very good and maybe a different tactical approach would bring some freshness to this team. For me, the bowling once again could change the tournament for India. It’s a young bowling attack, they will really have to show skills under pressure as the wickets are going to be flat.
It is going to be a tough competition as lot of the teams have got stronger over the years since the last world cup in Sri Lanka. Teams like Australia, Pakistan will go in to this tournament feeling good about themselves. Australia, to me, will be a real tough side with the way they have played recently in Ashes and South Africa. The outstanding form of Warner, Finch, Watson, Maxwell and Brad Hodge along with the fast bowling department make them a serious contender in this tournament. Holders West Indies will be another good side even without Kieron Pollard. They have some serious hitters and the likes of Narine, Badree will add variety to the bowling.
