A platform for new artists
Hyderabad: Canvas Unbound, the art exhibition held at Rainbow Art Gallery on Saturday, was a wonderful platform for new artists to take their work to people. The curator of the show, Sayyad Shaiek, got in touch with the artists in universities, art shows and production studios.
These were people, pursuing art full-time, or were associated with a creative pursuit like graphic designing and animation. Because most of them weren’t getting a much-needed break, I decided to have this art show, and encouraged some of the artists who weren’t very confident of themselves, to portray their unique perspectives on canvas.”
Canvas Unbound features the art work of nine national artists (mostly from the state) and three international artists. Michael Pienaar’s (Canada) pointillist depiction of pigeons sitting on the branches of a tree was one of the artworks which was appreciated by many.
The paintings which particularly stood out were, JNTU student Parameshwar’s series on butterflies, in bright acrylic colours, spreading their wings across canvas.
The art works by city-based graphic illustrator Pavitra Sinha, who is presently undertaking a residency programme in Barcelona, was fascinating to observe. In pen and ink, and colours red black and white, her deft strokes on canvas displayed emotions like devotion, betrayal, compromise, and the inherent good and bad traits in every person.
