Women going through the phase of menopause are highly prone to gaining weight, and especially around the abdomen. The reason is due to heavy hormonal changes that they go through. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has offered an advice, which can help avoid weight gain during menopause.

  • Stay as active as possible and get plenty of regular physical activity.
  • Try bring both aerobic and strength training exercises into your daily routine.
  • Cut calories by at least 200 per day.
  • Try focus on eating nutritious foods, which include bananas, whole grains, blueberries, soy, salmon, yogurt and dark leafy greens.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Cut down or limit your alcohol and salt intake.
  • Try maintaining a positive, healthy attitude.
