BJP defends Shah’s ‘revenge’ comment
Lucknow: The BJP on Saturday came under attack from parties over the “revenge” remarks by Narendra Modi’s close aide Amit Shah in riot affected western UP districts.
The SP called Mr Modi and his aide “fascists”, while the BSP claimed that the BJP’s PM candidate was using Mr Shah to polarise the votebank on communal lines. The JD(U) too came down hard on the BJP, saying that Mr Shah spoke like a “dictator who is trying unleash terror in the mind of the minority community”.
Unfazed by the attack, the BJP came out in defence of Mr Shah, with Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi saying, “The UP government has insulted the people of the state. This is not about Hindus and Muslims. This is about revenge for the insult.”
BJP chief Rajnath Singh, defended Mr Shah’s statement saying that it was a part of the BJP campaign for a “Congress free India”. “Mr Shah only asked people to vote against the Congress, which is perfectly democratic,” he said. Yoga guru Ramdev said that Mr Shah has only spoken of revenge against those who have looted the country for the last six decades.
