What went wrong for India in the final?
Mirpur: There could be some bits and pieces kind of reasons that would be pointed out about India’s loss in the final. But none will be as glaring as Yuvraj’s performance in the final. While he has won India so many games single-handedly, his performance in the final was a pale shadow of his bright past.
What was also glaring was Yuvraj’s inability to rotate strike and run quick between the wickets. Along with it, Dhoni will be questioned for his decision to send Yuvraj ahead of himself or Raina when Rohit Sharma got out. Agreed that Yuvraj if set can disturb the opposition plans and bowling attack, but he was not consistent throughout the ICC World T20. On the other hand, Raina showed the intent whenever he got a chance to bat.
If not Raina, Dhoni could have easily promoted himself up the order in the final. Firstly, he is one of the quickest between the wickets and can rotate the strike even when he is not batting well. Secondly, he, unlike Yuvraj could have added more pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers.
It is not that the scores in the region of 130 have not been defended in T20s. But such occasions are not too many. With only 130 runs to defend, Indian bowlers did their hardest. But that was not good enough. Such task gets more difficult when the track is helping the batsman and the quality of bats is in the ascendency.
To conclude, we could just say that India had their chance to win the second World T20 title and become the first country to have two T20 trophies in their trophy cabinet. But that was not to be as Sri Lanka finally managed to break their jinx to win the ICC World T20.
