New Delhi: The Congress’ senior leader and Union Law and Justice Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday moved the Election Commission of India over BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s alleged “wrong” affidavits in the past on his marital status, “for hiding facts in his election affidavits regarding his marriage.”
“He has not informed the country about his marital status. Now, while contesting from Vadorara Lok Sabha seat, he has mentioned that he is married,” Sibal said, echoed by Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, who said it took several elections for its prime ministerial candidate to mention the name of his wife in the poll affidavit. The EC is set to examine his plea.
Congress told the Election Commission that Modi had repeatedly professed in his speeches of being “single” with no family. “This was stated by him to re-emphasise the fact that he has nobody in this world - no relative, no family, no children and no political successor." The BJP insists the matter is personal.
