Mumbai: BMW has launched its new Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) known as ‘Concept X5 eDrive’. It features an intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive with an innovative BMW plug-in hybrid system. Official reports stated, ‘This combination ensures that the BMW Concept X5 eDrive stands not only for brand-typical sportiness and a luxurious ambience, but also efficiency and environmental-friendliness’.
According to its official blog, ‘BMW eDrive and xDrive are now united in an abundantly luxurious SAV’. Its eDrive technology helps in bringing out dynamics and outstanding efficiency. The vehicle has been developed as a plug-in hybrid to maximise the efficiency benefits. This technology also offers the most effective interplay between the combustion engine and the electric motor. The powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine helps in bringing out driving dynamics combined with lower fuel consumption and emissions.
The BMW Concept X5 eDrive vehicle can be recharged using a household power outlet and a public charging station as well.
Aerodynamics of Concept X5 eDrive are as follows:
Air Curtain: The integrated Air Curtain channels air through two vertical inlets and along the front wheel arches. The accelerated air flow creates a kind of “curtain” on the outer side of the wheels.
Air Breather: The Air Breather channels the air flow at the front wheels. This innovative technology reduces turbulence and air resistance, which, in turn, reduces fuel consumption.
Air Blades: The rear spoiler at the roof edge and the Air Blades joined to it at the side combine to form a highly efficient so-called ‘trailing edge’. The precisely defined air flow at the rear minimises disruptive air swirl and the braking effect of negative pressure.
