Uttam’s wife Kodad’s 1st woman contestant

Wants to work for modern homes for the people of Kodad

Hyderabad: Her husband, Uttam Kumar Reddy, is the sitting MLA from Hazurnagar and rumoured Chief Minister job aspirant, should the Congress return to power, but Padmavati Reddy has her own agenda as the Congress candidate for the Kodad Assembly constituency seat.

An architect by profession, Ms Reddy wants modern homes for the people of Kodad. She wants road connectivity to every village, drinking water to every house, and police stations staffed by women.

“I see hope in every face that welcomes me. They call me Kodad’s daughter. I am the first woman contender in the history of Kodad,” she says.

“There are around 120 villages that lack basic facilities like toilets and right to education. Most women here suffer domestic violence. There is no medical help close by. Habitat development is my top priority. In 1994, when Mr Reddy lost the elections we did not leave, but stayed back to do our service. He went on to win in 1999 and 2004 as an MLA,” said Ms Reddy, who is confident of winning because of the 20 years of association with her constituency.

Her husband is not threatened by opponents conspiring against him in his own Assembly constituency. When asked if rumours of him being his party’s candidate for Chief Minister are true, he said, “The Congress Legislature Party will decide that.”
