Want a woman chief minister in Telangana: Rahul Gandhi
Warangal: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi struck a chord with women voters across Telangana when he said he wanted a woman to become Chief Minister of Telangana. He was speaking at a public meeting in Warangal on Friday.
However, this announcement put PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah in a fix since he is one of the chief ministerial hopefuls.
Addressing the 30,000 plus gathering in Madikonda, Mr Gandhi said, “It is my dream to see a woman chief minister from Telangana. Women from Telangana and their administration of Self-Help Groups are an example not just to other women in the state, but also across the country. We have already announced 50 per cent reservation for women in panchayati raj and now we will also implement 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament.”
Making more promises, the AICC vice-president said he will waive loans of up to Rs 2 lakh for each farmer, will make Warangal the next IT hub after Hyderabad, create one lakh jobs for the youth in the government sector and two lakh in the private sector if the Congress comes to power again.
