Hyderabad: At a time when there are myriad predictions around the growth prospects of smartphone market in India, the leading handset makers are sweating it out to cling on to a sizeble share. With Samsung releasing its Galaxy S5 and Google coming up with Nexus5, the choices seemed to be divided already when HTC decided to chip in with its HTC one (M8).
The HTC One (M8) which is a sucessor of HTC One (M7), claims to take smartphone experience a step further. Talking to this newspaper, Faisal Siddiqui, country head, HTC said, “This is the only phone with 90 per cent metal cover. It has two cameras, which add depth to the photo and is priced atRs 49,900.”
The smartphone industry which is pegged to grow at 80 million this year, has too many players vying for a share. With everyone pricing their products aggresively, survival is the key to flourish in such an industry, “The industry is huge and can accomodate a wide set of players. HTC is a well known brand globally. We are focusing on aggressive pricing for our smartphones,” Mr Siddiqui said. HTC which claims to have 3 per cent market share globally plans to open 8,000 outlets in India in six months.
When quizzed about Google, HTC tie-up for Nexus 6, which is touted to hit markets in October 2014, Mr Siddiqui said that he was unaware of such a developments.
