LeapBand: a new activity tracker introduced by LeapFrog
Mumbai: LeapFrog Enterprises has developed a new wearable activity tracker ‘LeapBand’, specifically for kids between the age group of 4 to 7 years old. This band will be available in variant colours of pink, green, or blue.
This new wearable device is resembles a toy watch. LeapBand comprises of a shatter-proof 1.44-inch TFT display with three physical buttons below and an activity button above it and its strap is made of thick, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) plastic. The screen has a 128x128 resolution and is backlit as well.
Giving out a description on the home screen of this device, tom'sGUIDE stated, 'LeapBand is a Tamagotchi-like pet’. Each band comes with eight customizable digital pets, which includes panda, penguin, dragon, robot or cat, from LeapFrog's PetPals franchise. Pet Dance is a mini game built into the watch that teaches your child sequences as he or she follows patterns to get the pet to dance. ‘Your kid can interact with his or her pet in a plethora of games’, as per the official reports.
The game play includes of Pet Chef who challenges Junior to collect fruits and healthy food items on a plate as they fall from the top of the screen, while avoiding dirty socks or shirts. Each LeapBand comes with 14 preloaded activities such as ‘Walk like a crab’ etc, but parents can download up to 50 different commands through LeapFrog's connect app. The company also claims, ‘Through this app, elders can also designate goals and specific actions for Junior to reach, monitor how well he is doing and silence or lock the LeapBand by activating school mode or sleep mode.’
Right above the screen is the speaker, and to the left of that is an activity button. Below the screen are left and right arrow keys, with a star key between them. There is a miniUSB port on the right side of the LeapBand. ‘You can charge the built-in rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery via your computer using the bundled cable’, as stated by the PC. According to LeapFrog, the device will need to be recharged every four to six days, assuming standard play time.
