Google Drive App to lose document editing features
Mumbai: Google has decided to delete its editing feature for sheets or documents on Google Drive app. Even if the users attempt to edit it directly, the documents will appear in a view-only mode.
Due to this reason, users will have to download a standalone app called ‘Docs and Sheets’. This will in turn help users to edit documents, as per the official reports. Brian Leveem, Google product manager mentioned in one of his blogs that the new changes are designed to help their clients in creating and editing spreadsheets, documents, and presentations on their mobile phones itself.
Depending on the success of usage of the Docs and Sheets app, another standalone app for presentations will be released as well. China Topix also reported, ‘The effort is also a way for Google to prompt its users to get only the mobile apps that they need’.
Such similar updates have also been carried out by Microsoft. Previously, Microsoft had separate mobile apps for its OneDrive cloud services. By creating standalone apps for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, Microsoft has increased its visibility on mobile devices, as per official reports.
