KitKat users cannot view Tata Sky mobile TV
Mumbai: If watching TV been missing from your busy schedule, then you can switch on to the Tata Sky mobile TV app. Using this app enables you to watch your favourite tv shows while you are on the move. All needed is a Tata Sky connection at home and your smartphone enabled with 3G internet (or Wi-Fi). To activate this mobile TV, one needs to complete free registration on the app and then call the Tata Sky Helpline.
Previously, Android and iOS users were able to use this app by paying a normal monthly charge. But at present, the smartphones running on KitKat are facing issues since the app, though it compatible with Android KitKat 4.4, users are not able to watch TV. Contacting the Tata Sky helpline, we figured that the Android mobile app is limited to operating system versions and handset models. IOS users are not affected by this issue.
As per the Google Play Store, the app has the limitations to handset and operating system versions which are listed as below:
- Samsung Galaxy S II with OS version 4.1.2 ONLY
- Samsung Galaxy S III with OS version 4.1.1 & 4.3 ONLY
- Samsung Galaxy S 4 with OS version 4.2.2 & 4.3 ONLY
- Samsung Galaxy Note II with OS version 4.1.2 & 4.3 ONLY
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with OS version 4.3 ONLY
- Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos with OS version 4.2.2 ONLY
- Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 with OS version 4.3 ONLY
- HTC One X with OS version 4.2.2 ONLY
- LG Nexus 4 with OS version 4.3 ONLY
- HTC One with OS version 4.2.2 ONLY
Users downloading the app for the first time fail to notice the ONLY in the list. This confirms that the app will work ‘only’ with the above mentioned handsets and OS versions of Android.
Individuals who have the latest handsets will have definitely updated their smartphones to Android KitKat v4.4.x. This limits the use of the TataSky Mobile app. Hopefully, TataSky addresses this issue and updates the app as soon as possible.
Presently, the TATASky mobile app is free to download and the service is free till May 30, 2014.
