Hyderabad: Social networking sites on Monday claimed that actor and YSR Congress member Azhagu Raja had died, even as he was campaigning for the party. It has not yet been established as to who spread the rumour on sites like Twitter and Facebook.
Actor Raja had joined the YSRC and has been campaigning for its candidates across the state. However, on Monday, news of Raja dying in a car accident spread on the social networking sites. On Twitter, the hashtag #RIPRaja was trending for a brief while.
The news led to exchange of tweets between supporters of the YSRC and those of Pawan Kalyan.
A Twitter account with the name Pawan Kalyan and handle @kapilvarala tweeted, “Actor Raja (Anand fame) dead in accident??? Is this true??” Another Twitter user Srikanth tweeted, “Actor raja died in accident! Rest in peace.”
False rumours about several famous celebrities have been spread in the past and Internet security experts say that many a times, links leading to the news reports of the malicious rumours lead to virus attacks and malware.
