Biju Menon is a grounded star
Kochi: Biju Menon is not a superstar, but he is busy as a bee. Hero, villain or a comedian, the popular Mollywood actor plays every role with great élan. With a number of films in his kitty, the ace actor is having a great run. The actor is preparing for his next film directed by Jhonny Antony, where he joins his successful partner Kunchacko Boban!
The actor says that he loves to be a part of multi-starrer film rather than doing a hero oriented film. “I never had an issue working as a second hero. Rather than doing a hero-oriented film, I love being a part multi-starrer film, because such films always strike a chord with audience,” says Biju.
The actor has won accolades for his perfect Palakkadan slang in the film Ordinary. For his upcoming movie tentatively titled Vellimoonga, directed by debut Jibu Jacob, he will once again show his talent in speaking in a different slang.
“In this movie, I play a politician for the first time. The story is set in and around Kottayam, so I have to use the local slang. It is always a challenge to do that and I thoroughly enjoy it,” says Biju with a smile.
Malayalam film industry has seen many celebrity marriages which have failed. Biju and Samyuktha tied the knot on November 21, 2002 and are one of the few celebrity couples who are still in love and living a happily married life. They have acted together in movies like Madhuranombarakattu and Mazha. Ask him the secret and the actor gives all credit to his wife and God.
Biju says, “In fact, there is no particular secret for a happy married life. When two people live together with mutual trust and understanding, rest of the things just fall into place. Samyuktha is a very understanding person, and being an actor, she understands the pros and cons of this profession.”
Quiz him whether Samyuktha is planning a second inning in films and he says, “We haven’t discussed it, but if it has to happen, it will. She is a very talented artiste.”
Not just a great actor, Biju Menon is a great father too, to his 8-year-old son Dhaksh Dharmik. Reminding one of the cool father role he played in his super hit films Seniors, Biju Menon says that he wants his son to grow up in complete freedom.
“I don’t want to put pressure or restrict him in any way. I don’t want to pressurise him with too much of academics and hectic tuitions because I believe apart from academics, there are many good things in life. He should enjoy that too,” says Biju.
An actor who isn’t enamoured by the glitz of stardom, Biju wants to stay grounded despite his success. He considers himself a ‘people’s actor’.
“I am not an ambitious person and I love to go with the flow. I never feel insecure about my career because I believed that in some way or other, good things come to you. This might be the only reason that I never take pride in stardom or a celebrity status. It is the audience who put me in a successful stride and I am really thankful to them.”
