Poll results to change party heads’ strategies
Hyderabad: Many political careers will be made or broken as the results for 42 Lok Sabha and 294 Assembly seats in AP start trickling in on Friday.
TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu’s political future is not in jeopardy going by the local body results and exit polls. This was a crucial election for him after being out of power for 10 years, but even if he loses in Seemandhra, he has shown he has enough clout to be a powerful opposition force.
It’s not the same for YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. He may, like N.T. Rama Rao and P.K. Mohanty, win in the very first general election his party has contested. But if he loses, it will be the beginning of a very critical phase in his life. Mr Naidu will ensure that Mr Reddy is harassed and hounded.
The poll outcome could also see a realignment of regional parties that want to be in the good books of the government at the Centre. Mr Reddy has already declared that he will support any government at the Centre except the Congress. Similarly, the TRS may change its mind and take BJP support if it falls short of seats to form the government.
