Couples in Hyderabad pick Telangana-Day to tie the knot

Over 10,000 weddings on 2nd June & 250 scheduled in Hyderabad itself

Hyderabad: Preparations for welcoming the new state are in full flow. To make the day all the more memorable, many couples are tying the knot on June 2, the Telangana Formation Day.

Celebrations will begin from the evening of June 1, itself. Many students’ organisations and political parties have organised cultural programmes at Gun Park, Secunderabad Martyrs Memorial and Arts College while some have also planned bike rallies across the city . Hotels, resorts and function halls have been booked to celebrate the occasion by many groups. Many will take the day off from work, though, June 2, has not been declared a holiday.

“Several weddings are being held on June 2 as it is an auspicious day. With Panchami falling on Monday with the Pushya Nakshatram and coinciding with the Mithuna lagnam, the day is very auspicious, very rare and good for anything new,” said Vasudev Acharya, a city priest.

Raghavendra Rao Mattapalli, a personality development trainer, hailing from Adilabad, is celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary on June 2. “This is very exciting for us as the year will be even more special. I am going to celebrate it for the people of the region and the families of the martyrs whose sacrifices bore fruit. This is a new year for us and we have to work from now on to develop it,” he said.

Vanaja Rao, founder of marriage consultancy firm Vanaja Rao Quick Marriages Pvt. Ltd, said, “I think there are over 10,000 weddings being performed on this day. Panchami Puashyami muhurtam falls on Monday and weddings performed on this day will grow into strong relationships. Some have scheduled it on this day because of the sentiment of the formation of new state as well. The day is also very auspicious for the swearing-in.

Over 250 weddings are scheduled in Hyderabad itself. All marriage halls and hotels have been booked for the day. We also have a great demand from people in our other bureaus across the state.”

P. Dutt, secretary, Hotels and Restaurants Association for Andhra Pradesh, mentioned that many farewell parties were also being organised for government employees. “This day is going to be a celebration for some, but tough for the officials who have been assigned to other places. We have been organising a lot of farewells and also welcoming parties for government departments as the separation has touched employees from both sides.

They all share an emotional bond.”
