Modi model: PM scraps GoMs, EGoMs to expediate decision-making process

PMO scraps 9 EGoMs and 21 GoMs

Hyderabad: In a move to put governance on the fast track and fix accountability, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday decided to do away with the decision-making system that utilised groups of ministers (GoMs) and empowered groups of ministers (EGoMs), a hallmark of the coalition era. With this, all the 30 GoMs and EGoMs cease to exist and ministries and departments have been told to take decisions on pending matters.

The PMO, while announcing the decision to scrap nine EGoMs and 21 GoMs, said in an official statement that this would expedite the process of decision-making and “usher in greater accountability in the system”.

The statement said that the ministries and departments will now process issues pending before EGoMs and GoMs and take appropriate decisions at their level itself. It also maintained that in case the ministries face difficulties, the Cabinet Secretariat and the PMO would facilitate the decision-making process.
