Mita Vashisht joins cast of Jodha Akbar
Mumbai: After playing roles with shades of grey in the past, actress Mita Vashisht is all set to play an out-and-out dark character in Ekta Kapoor’s historical show, Jodha Akbar.
Ekta Kapoor and Mita will be collaborating after a gap of six years in this show. Mita will play Akbar’s power-hungry, evil stepmother Maha Chuchak. Her aim is to dethrone Akbar and she won’t stop even at having him assassinated if need be. Her entry will result in more troubles in the emperor’s life.
Sources from the show tell us that a number of actresses were considered for the role, including Kashmera Shah, Meghna Malik and Urvashi Dholakia. However, it was Mita who was finally zeroed in.
Mita said that her character would be a “major antagonist” and “wreak havoc in Akbar’s life”.
“I like the large vision they are giving to the character. I am yet to have a detailed session with Ekta on the nuances — she has a beautiful way of making an actor understand the rhythm, the tone and the layering of a character. I have seen in the past that it is often after an in-depth chat with her that I am able to throw myself into playing a character and the track just takes off from there. I hope to re-create the magic yet again!”
