Beas tragedy: In constant touch with authorities, says college

The parents are complaining of lack of response from college staff

Hyderabad: Family members of the missing rushed to the VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Bachupally, on Monday to inquire about their loved ones. The management, however, had few details .

Umakanth, uncle of Macharla Akhil, one of the missing students, said, “The management is not responding to our queries. They say they have no information to give us.” B. Shekhar Naik, father of B. Rambabu, who rushed from Nalgonda district said “I was not worried about this trip. I only sent him money when he asked for it.” Meanwhile, the management assured them of all possible help from their side.

Venkateshwara Rao, senior member of the board, said, “Government officials assured us that the army and disaster management force would be sent. A five- member team was sent from the college. We are in touch with all concerned officials supervising the rescue operations and have been checking for updates.”

Meanwhile, the victim’s parents staged protests at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, on Monday morning as many could not get tickets on regular flights. Later, special arrangements were made by the airport authorities to get them flights.

A special flight, said to be arranged by the TD, left at 2.15 pm with 25 parents. Most of the parents had left by the early morning Air India flight.

“Fifty-two relatives and parents of the 24 missing students have been sent. Telangana home minister Naini Narsimha Reddy and government officials, along with a police team from Cyberabad also left by the morning flight,” airport officials said.
