President Pranab Mukherjee charts PM Narendra Modi's growth roadmap
New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government on Monday unveiled its agenda for governance, with President Pranab Mukherjee in his address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament outlining the priorities, that included extensive use of technology, policy predictability, measures to curb communal violence, reining in corruption and inflation and encouraging investment, both domestic and foreign.
Mr Mukherjee, abiding by the convention that requires the President to read out the speech cleared by the Union Cabinet, promised that his government would ensure a “predictable, transparent and fair” policy environment and “non-adversarial” tax regime conducive to investment.
These measures are intended to put the economy back on the growth path, he added.
Insisting there would be “zero tolerance” on terrorism, extremism, riots and crime, the President, in a 50-minute address in Parliament’s Central Hall, said, “The government will maintain utmost vigil in the area of internal security. A national plan will be chalked out in consultation with state governments to effectively curb incidents of communal violence and challenges posed by left-wing extremism.”
