Centre looks to dispel Muslim fears
New Delhi: In an effort to dispel any fears regarding current Modi regime in the Muslim community, Union HRD ministry and the ministry of minority affairs are likely to collaborate for modernising madrassas in the country and evolve a national madrassa modernisation programme soon.
Union HRD minister Smriti Irani is understood to soon initiate a wide ranging consultation with various community organisations in partnership with the ministry of minority affairs.
The consultation process would aim to find ways to “strengthen and modernise minority educational systems and institutions in the country.”
Sources stated that the ministry would aim to involve madrassas in the teaching of subjects like science, computer science and mathematics and also aim towards integration of the minority community into the mainstream.
It was clarified that the teaching of these subjects would be over and above the ones already being taught in these schools.
Sources in the ministry stated that the teaching of these modern subjects is expected to boost the chances of employment and economic prospects of students and help in the successful integration of them into the mainstream.
