Actress Yami Gautam says that when it comes to fashion she likes to keep it simple and comfortable. She shares her beauty and fashion fundas.
Mumbai: She is known for her girl-next-door image and now she is ready to emerge as the next fashionista with her brand new glam avatar. Actress Yami Gautam, who was recently in New Delhi to announce her association with the India Online Fashion Week conceptualised by Jabong.com and Talenthouse, is all set to be celebrity style mentor for this venture.
The pretty and petite actress, who looked perky in a blue and white polka dot crop top teamed with a structured orange bow skirt, mentioned that her favourite style icon is model Tyra Banks. Yami says, “I love the way Tyra Banks dresses up — she looks so elegant and glamorous in whatever she wears. The confidence and attitude she exudes on and off the ramp is remarkable. I think the most important thing in fashion is to be yourself, and that is what I would be telling all the participants who will be under my mentorship.”
Yami, who started her career with TV ads and became famous after her debut movie Vicky Donor, mentions that for her style is an individual trait. She says, “In current times, there is no dearth of fashion experts, stylists and clothing brands, but when it comes to fashion the only thing that matters is the comfort factor. One should know their body types well to experiment with trends. When I look back at my past mistakes, I realise that there were times when I wasn’t myself and that’s why certain styles did not work well for me. It’s a learning process, and by experimenting with your style, one keeps evolving it.”
Speaking about her favourite trends, and her own fashion sensibilities she says, “I love feminine soft shades for summers — I like pastels and bright hues too. I like summer dresses and tank tops, I think they never go out of style. As much as I’m happy with Western wear for red carpet and social dos, I also like Indian ethnic wear for special occasions. I am very fond of sports wear and I shop for it online most of the time since I’m always on the move.”
Yami says that London and NY are her favourite destinations. While discussing her travel and beauty essentials, she says, “When I leave my home, I make sure I have a lip-balm, hand sanitiser and some face tissues in my bag. While travelling I usually pack my bags according to the destination. If I am heading for a cold place, I carry comfortable boots, sweaters and overcoats. Whereas, for a beach destination I prefer wearing shorts and tank tops.”
For her fit body and beautiful skin, Yami credits her Punjabi and Pahari genes, but also advises her fans to take up one physical activity/sports as a hobby. She says, “I don’t like going to a gym much, but I stay fit by playing sports. I try and keep a balanced diet and drink lots of water to stay healthy.”
Yami, although new, is not on a signing spree and her future projects include Action Jackson by Prabhu Deva and an unnamed Bollywood project. “Action Jackson is a masala movie, and you’ll see me in a very different avatar. I hope my fans like me in this new image,” she concludes.
