Andy’s elimination shocks him

Despite mass appeal, Andy got eliminated and he blames it on his choreographer

Mumbai: The first contestant to be eliminated from the latest season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is VJ Andy. It has come as a shock to many given his mass appeal and dance background. In fact, he was expected to be one of the finalists. So, what went wrong?

Andy tells us, “When I was offered the show, my only request to the team was that they give me an experienced choreographer who knows how things function. Instead, they gave me someone from Delhi who has never been on the show and does not know too many dance styles. She did not even know the format, and just two days before the performance, our dance was changed completely.

The performance was naturally bad and I scored low. I was told that I did not garner many votes either, which is very surprising because I have quite a huge following on social media. I know people have voted for me.”

How does Andy feel about singer Sukhwinder Singh (who is considered the weakest contestant this season) being safe while he gets eliminated? Andy says, “I was told he survived on audience votes.”
Andy who competed with Sophie Choudry in the elimination round feels that she had an advantage since she was paired with choreographer Deepak who has won Jhalak in the past.

He says, “I definitely feel I would have fared better if I had a good choreographer. Competition between a previous winner and a first timer isn’t fair. Also I wasn’t given much footage in the first episode. I was hardly seen for a few minutes. Not many people noticed me.”

When asked if he would agree to compete as a wild card entry Andy says, “Definitely not with the same choreographer. But only if the audience wants me back will I return. I want to be the Jennifer Hudson of Jhalak. Maybe I will win an award for my dancing and show the BBC Worldwide people that Andy can dance.”

So, what’s in store in the near future? Andy says, “I’m sitting on some scripts and want to be sure of which films I take up. Also, I want to bring my show Dare To Date back. I want to do something on the same lines, but not just for youngsters, for a wider age group.”
