Khushbu quits DMK, tweets ‘Karunanidhi like dad’
Chennai: Actor Khushbu Sundar, a prominent face of the DMK, quit the party on Monday. In a one page letter addressed to party president M Karunanidhi, she attributed her decision “taken with a heavy heart” to the party overlooking her dedication and hard work.
“From leaders to cadres everyone in the DMK is aware that I have given 100% to accomplish whatever task was entrusted on me ever since I joined the party. However, I am deeply stressed to note that my dedication and hard work continues to be one-way traffic in the party. And hence I have taken the decision to relinquish the primary membership of the DMK with a heavy heart”, she said.
The actor who made herself unavailable to the media shortly after circulating her letter through her PR friends was however busy posting her parting remarks in social networking site twitter. Her official twitter handle @Khushsundar said, “Thanks for the support… humbled n indebted… very emotional moment.. request my friends from press to leave me alone for sometime..”
“Will always have my highest regards 4 @kalaignar89 all thru my life..he is not just leader but a father I never had..nothing can take that away,” continued the tweet thread of the actor known for proximity with Karunanidhi. She also added, “I am not jumping to any other party….so stop assumptions n hold back ur horses friends..need some time alone with family.”
Trouble brewed for Khusbhu in the party last year when the actor known for her “no frills” attitude that easily invites controversies rubbed the DMK leadership on the wrong side by subtly ‘questioning’ Stalin’s succession, in a media interview. Her house was attacked by Stalin loyalists after the interview. After a period of withdrawal from party affairs, the Kollywood damsel again reappeared in style when she flanked Karunanidhi at the party’s state conference in Tiruchy last March. She described the 2011 Assembly poll drubbing as “defeat of the people” and had her name doing the rounds for the South Chennai seat in the recently concluded LS poll till the last minute.
“She is in DMK for just two or three years now. She enjoyed all stardom. She got more than what other leaders who worked decades for the party had got. The successive poll defeats might have raised doubts in her about her political career which is still in the stage of infancy,” said a Stalin confidant, trying to analyse the reason for Khushbu’s quit decision.
Some others point to her messages to Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani and insist that Khushbu is all set to join the BJP, not withstanding her present assertion that she would not “jump into any party”.
