Telugu Desam leader’s nephew faces child rape case
Hyderabad: The nephew of a TD leader from the Kurnool district of AP has been booked for allegedly raping a minor. The victim approached the Hyderabad police on June 11 and lodged a complaint.
The 16-year-old girl, who is a native of Kolkata, alleged that she was taken from Hyderabad and raped in a hotel at Kurnool by Somisetty Harikrishna, 45, a native of Kurnool. Two teams have been sent to arrest Harikrishna.
Police said the girl was looking for a job. “She came here to find work and through a person known to her father she was sent to Kurnool, where the accused sexually exploited her on June 9 and 10. Based on her complaint, we registered a case. We have sent teams to Kurnool to nab the accused,” said inspector B. Ravindra Reddy.
The victim said she was offered a job as a receptionist at the Sai Krishna Hotel in Kurnool which belongs to Somisetty Harikrishna. She said she was taken in a car to the hotel and raped. She said she escaped with the help of the hotel staff and came to Hyderabad.
Sources said Somisetty Harikrishna is the nephew of Kurnool district TD president Somisetty Venkateshwarlu. But the cops say they know nothing about the relationship.
"We didn't want to trouble her with jurisdiction issues. So we immediately booked the case and started investigating," said R. Jaya Lakshmi, DCP, North Zone.
Sources said Somisetty Harikrishna is the nephew of Kurnool district TDP president Somisetty Venkateshwarlu. The police say they know nothing about the relationship.
