Macro‘love’nomics in soulfood
From macrobiotics to the love diet… counsellor, chef and instructor Shonali Sabherwal walks many paths in her pursuit for a wholesome wellness lifestyle. The lady who has designed diets and meals for a large Bollywood bandwagon is clear about one thing, “It’s about how you treat your body that reflects in your love, and life.”
Instead of overdosing on triggers like coffee or sugar, she says that eating the right food helps one attract the right energy. She studied macrobiotics at the Kushi Institute in the US and is spreading that knowledge across the country. She is also the author of The Beauty Diet.
Shonali has given Katrina Kaif lessons of that wisdom and is now busy creating customised diets for actress Jacqueline Fernandez. “I have been working with Jacqueline for long now. She takes detox diets and meals from me. Neha Dhupia, Hema Malini, her daughters Ahana and Esha also take detox diets occasionally. Dalip Tahil also is a client,” she reveals.
“For Katrina, I had trained her domestic staff on a diet and meal routine to suit her requirements, but that was a while ago, I have not been in touch with her after that,” she adds.
While a macrobiotic diet takes food as a part of the balancing act, it also helps in weight loss, which she herself has experienced. She recently came out with a new book called The Love Diet by Random House, which dwells into the sexual nature of humans, highlighting areas and diets that work to create good energy. And it’s simple Plants, fruits, fermented food, nuts, whole grains, legumes and fish. The focus on seasonal, local, traditional and organic food is what makes it work.
Creating ingredients and meals for her clients, her Soulfood workshops teach macrobiotic cooking. Shonali is also in the process of developing her own brand of products. “My cooking classes continue through Soulfood. I am working on products that will also be on the shelves soon one is a traditional Indian probiotic pickle. Like a sauerkraut, there’s also sour dough bread and granola bars with low sugar and no maida. I am also working on dairy cakes,” she says.
