Ministers of state still wait for work

Cabinet ministers are yet to decide on what specific works are to be given to junior

New Delhi: Even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked Cabinet ministers to allocate work to their deputies and inform him accordingly, ministers of state (MoS) still await delegation of responsibilities in their respective ministries.

In the absence of official allocation of work, junior ministers are mostly keeping themselves busy meeting people from their respective Lok Sabha constituencies, besides accompanying their Cabinet ministers to official functions and meetings with the Prime Minister.

Within a week of the swearing-in of the council of ministers on May 26, the Prime Minister had written to the Cabinet ministers, telling them to allocate work to their respective junior ministers. Most of the ministries in the last fortnight have briefed the Prime Minister about their priorities, with their secretaries making Power Point presentations to Mr Modi. But the Cabinet ministers are yet to decide on what specific works are to be given to their junior colleagues.

A close aide of Railways minister Sadanand Gowda said, “The minister is busy with the Rail Budget preparation, which may have held up the allocation of work to the MoS. Once the Rail Budget is presented, the MoS will be assigned specific work.” The same holds true for the ministries of rural development, agriculture and elsewhere.
