Google Fit: Google’s fitness initiative app for android

The app will combine information from third party apps to maintain your health database

Hyderabad: Google has announced that its new initiative — Google Fit — customised for Android, will help users keep a track of their health and serve as a fitness expert.

Google Fit is on an open platform and will be available to developers.

The initiative will collect information using sensors on mobile devices and wearables such as the Google smartwatch collection.

The sensors will relay information with regard to various health and fitness related data for apt recommendations to its users. For example, the weightloss app, Noom, will combine workout data, one’s weight using the withings smart scale, eating habits and monitor your overall activity before making suggestions.

Google has tied up with Nike+, LF, Adidas, Basis, Runtastic, RunKeeper, Polar, HTC and Motorola to deliver the best possible results.

Google’s press conference comes after Apple had earlier announced its health app — HealthKit.

Google Fit will combine information from third party apps with which it has tied up to keep a common data base for all information related to your health.
