Frocks that rock: Trendy frocks are haute and happening

An array of frock styles are emerging as this season’s new darlings

Hyderabad: When a frock is worn right, the end result is usually stunning. And this season, trendy frock styles are haute and happening. The Elie Saab’s S/S 14 line with 3D embossed florals in sheer and jewel tones, and another in solid colours with bright blooms on white are the latest innovations that has all signs of a winner.

Prada has a brilliant display of pop art in frocks. Whereas, Monique Lhuillier’s cocktail dresses in single tones of fuchsia and nude, accentuated with antique gold and bronze lace, create a formal finesse. And Mary Katrantzou’s 3D embellished crystal frock is an artwork in itself.

“The soft silhouette and small details elevate the frock to high fashion status. It defines femininity with a panache. And, look how casually versatile it is you can go scissor happy with its length and flair without tampering with the original idea. Nothing can beat the sartorial magic of a white frock created out of cotton lace. Invest in one and it will never get dated,” says designer Gavin Miguel.
Designer Vandy Mehra finds a certain “timeless appeal” that comes attached with a frock. In her words, “While basking in all that femininity, they comfortably adapt to the casual as well as the formal look.”

The designer goes on to add, “A flowy frock is an undeniable summer staple, while a pencil fit frock is the season’s new darling. Lengthwise, you can keep it knee-high, or perhaps the longer version that covers the knee and goes down till the calf is worth a try. Go for lighter fabrics like linen, printed cotton. For a formal wear, opt for heavier linens or a blended cotton. Slight variations in accessories can alter the mood of your outfit.”

The flair gives way to a lean look in designer Suchana Parasrampuria’s scheme of trendy frocks. She says, “I am keen on exploring this style in A-line and asymmetrical patterns. Flat chiffons and crisp cottons exude a carefree appeal and gel well with this concept. The preferred shade card of the moment tilts towards nude colours like old rose, beige ivory, lavender and blues.”
