Government officials to get interactive on the social media
New Delhi: Following the directive from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for all ministries to get interactive on the social media and make government operations transparent and easily accessible to people, Union information and broadcasting ministry is set to hold the first training session of various departments for a successful debut on social media.
The first such tutorial session will be held on July 11 and is likely to be addressed by social media experts, sources stated.
Sources said that so far 38 ministries have already appointed nodal officers through which the social media teams will be interacting with common people.
It is understood that several important ministries like the ministry of home affairs have appointed joint secretary level officials as nodal officers for social media.
At the day-long session these nodal officers will be trained in the social media outreach programme, and will be guided from basics like creating a Twitter handle or Facebook page, to posting photographs and other relevant details on these. The government officials are also expected to be trained in handling people on the social media so as to evolve this new media outreach programme for the country, sources stated.
These officials will also be trained in organising social media events like Google hangouts and also how to upload videos on YouTube.
The Information and Broadcasting ministry team for social media will also be providing assistance to these ministries in inter-inking of accounts and how to promote each other on the social media so that maximum exposure for government is received.
The step comes days after a letter by I&B minister Prakash Javadekar who asked all central ministries asking them to disseminate their policy initiatives through the Communication Hub under the existing New Media Wing of the ministry.
