Telangana to ask Supreme Court: Put off Eamcet admissions

Process to last till October end; AP will be affected

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court requesting extension of the last date for completion of admissions to engineering and medical courses from August. 1 to October end.

If the apex court extends the deadline, it would be applicable to Andhra Pradesh as well due to the common nature of the counselling process.

Interestingly, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, cited the shortage of IAS officers for the huge exercises involved in working out the modalities of the fee reimbursement scheme in the state.

The apex court had earlier directed states to begin classes by August 1. However, there is a good possibility of admission process being completed much before that if the fee reimbursement tangle is resolved.

A press release from the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office on Saturday said the Chief Minister had asked the advocate-general to file the appeal in the Supreme Court on Monday.

The Chief Minister has said allocation of officers was not completed yet and only about 70 IAS, IPS and IFS officers are working in Telangana against the requirement of nearly 320 officers.
