Chennai temples turn out to be favourite destination: survey

Nearly 74 per cent people chose destinations for enhancing their children’s knowledge

Chennai: Contrary to popular perception it’s not Chennai’s beaches that draw most families on an outing in the city but the Sri Kapaleshwar temple . A survey among families with children in the age group one to 18 has found that the ancient temple followed by the Crocodile Bank, and the Sri Kalikambal temple are the top three preferred destinations in the city.

Interestingly, nearly 74 per cent of those covered by the survey chose destinations or activities based on their potential for enhancing their children’s knowledge.

According to the findings of the ‘Trips with Children Survey 2014,’ holiday planning with children clearly involves keeping an eye out for destinations that help in enhancing their knowledge, learning and overall intellectual development.

“It’s also interesting to note the significant role children play in planning a trip with an overwhelming 68 per cent of parents consulting them while deciding on the destination,” says Mr Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor India.

However, while a large number of parents may consult children, only five per cent actually ended up doing things or going to places suggested by them, the survey found. Around 32 per cent of parents decided where to go and what to do entirely on their own and 71 per cent were unaffected by their children’s demand for a foreign holiday based on peer pressure.
