Distressed jeans are back in trend
Distressed jeans, have been around for quite sometime now, but they’ve been brought back into the limelight all thanks to the international and Indian celebrities who have been sporting them with increasing frequency.
From Rihanna, Cameron Diaz to Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, distressed jeans have become a wardrobe must-have. But how does one get the look right?
Fashion designers feel that distressed jeans are a great look and individuals can decide on the extent of the “rips” based on personal choice. While designer Gaurav Jagtiani says that medium distress should do the trick, Rajat Tangri feels that it is mostly a DIY trend, where one is free to experiment.
“Sometimes people do the rips excessively but again it depends on their personal choice; those with great body types can get away with extra rips. So ultimately it all comes down to the confidence with which one can carry off the outfit, where it looks chic and not forced,” adds Rajat, whose clothes have been worn by the likes of Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor.
Those not familiar with the technical know-how of distressing can always buy them from stores, since they are now available almost everywhere.
Gaurav says, “One can really experiment with them from acid washes for that extra faded look to adding metal components to jazz up the outfit.”
Because of the distress, one also needs to take very good care of the denims, “You can give it a gentle wash at home, and can get it dry-cleaned as well, but it’s important to maintain the distress, so that the outfit doesn’t open up completely,” adds Gaurav.
