FIFA World Cup 2014: Cheers and tears; India reacts to Germany’s victory over Argentina

Goetze scored the winning goal in extra time to give Germany a 1-0 victory

Mumbai: It was Germany all the way on Sunday’s most anticipated match, a final surely not to be missed. With two quick touches, Mario Goetze ended Germany's 24-year wait for another World Cup title.

Goetze scored the winning goal in extra time to give Germany a 1-0 victory over Argentina on Sunday in a tight and tense World Cup final that came down to one piece of individual skill.

Often dubbed as a ‘cricket crazy’ nation, India watched the FIFA World Cup with the same enthusiasm and craziness as any other participating nation.

Though, India is placed 154th in FIFA rankings and the thought of our footballers playing the nerve-wrecking sporting extravaganza may be a distant dream, but when we love a sport, we just love it the Indian way.

Where India lacks for talent, it makes up for sportsmanship.

Offices were bunked, sea of ‘sick’ leave applications were tabled and all important things kept aside to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, Twitter went berserk over the last month with viral memes of Luis Suarez, female football fans going gaga over the hotness quotient of Andrea Pirlo and tweets shouting GOAAALLLL all over on timelines.

The typical ‘friendly Indian banter’ and prayers for players to create magic with the ball ruled Twitter.

Here is how India reacted to Germany’s win over Argentina.
