‘Mission 15-08-15’ on fast-track mode for Kochi Corporation
Kochi: The Kochi Corporation, which announced its 'Mission 15-08-15' here on Friday, plans to take up a number of programmes in fast-track mode akin to the State government’s 'Mission 676'.
Mayor Tony Chammany said that 32 projects had been selected and they would have to be completed in the remaining 393 days available to the present UDF Council.
“These projects do not require land acquisition, which can be either fully or partially completed by August 15, 2015. Most of the projects were earlier announced in budget or in Plan fund utilisation,” the mayor said.
Two senior officials have been appointed as special officers of the Mission and an action team will also be constituted for project implementation. Regular review meetings will be held twice a week in which the mayor, deputy mayor and standing committee chairpersons will monitor progress. To avoid bureaucratic delays, a special tracking system will be introduced to observe the movement of files.
“Projects will be implemented on PPP basis, BOT basis and using own funds and Plan funds. The Housing and Urban Development Corporation has offered to provide a loan for the new Corporation office building project. The official inauguration of 'Mission Kochi 15-08-15' will be in the first week of August,” said Mr. Chammany.
Some of the major projects that will be taken up in fast-track mode are a new solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram, a septage treatment plant and city beautification, which will cover four roads, PT Usha Road, Shanmugham Road, Broadway and Edappally-Vyttila NH by-pass.
Another project that will be taken up is the setting up of a women-only, women-operated hotel at the Corporation owned by Hotel Libra.
“The rehabilitation of families, evacuated from Perandoor Canal, who were provided temporary shelter at Hotel Libra, will be completed in two weeks. After that Expression of Interest will be invited from private agencies to renovate the hotel to convert it as a women-only hotel which will be useful for women executives, students and those coming into the city for various purposes,” the Mayor said.
