Police to monitor CCTV cameras at all malls, shops

Hard drives of cameras placed outside will be connected to the police control room

Hyderabad: Very soon the surveillance cameras at malls, commercial complexes, shops and other private establishments will be monitored by the police.
Police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy has asked owners to keep separate hard drives for cameras which are installed inside and outside.

The hard drives of cameras placed outside will be connected to the police control room. This helps the police to monitor crime. He asked shop owners to install cameras and requested municipal officials to stress the installation of cameras while granting licenses.

The commissioner was speaking at the seminar on public awareness on surveillance cameras, conducted by the police on Saturday.

He said according to the Public Safety (Measures) Act, 2013 every establishment needs to install web enabled cameras at its entry and exit points and parking areas. Apart from the private establishments, the government has also come forward to provide around 6,500 cameras to be fixed on roads.

Quoting the case of London, he said, “You will be captured at least 250 times there from the time you step out of your house till you get back. This helps in bringing down the crime rate. The statistics also reveal the same.”

West Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said cases like the Tanishq robbery were solved using cameras. He said after creating awareness amongst owners of establishments, about 852 more cameras were installed in the zone.

Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar and others senior officials were also present.
