Trousers are a fashion must, for those who like to make a statement
Hyderabad: This year some of the most interesting style stories have unfolded in the trouser category. Designers have given pants an innovative makeover, which makes them a haute favourite. We give you a lowdown on how to wear them right.
Print Power
The S-S-14 runway bloomed with multi-coloured to monochromatic flowers in Just Cavalli, Givency, Max Azria, Peter Som and J Crew’s trousers. “Give the monotones a rest and invite tropical prints with their exuberant colour pattern for a pant show. Splashy prints of hibiscus flowers and tropical rainforests prints, cobra and Aztec prints are ranking high on the trend chart. If you are not willing to go too flashy go for subtle tea cup prints. Strike a balance by pairing them with solid coloured tops in soft tones. And, for that bohemian look, mismatched prints on prints sounds good,” suggests designer Jessica Khanijo of Trendy Divva.
Sheer Show
Sheer has now entered the trouser space. Antonio Berardi has gone sheer on a complete note, while Erdem and Cedric Charlier have strategically teamed them with opaque fabrics. “There is certain sensuality about sheer pants, and they do the job without revealing too much. Wear them loose and wear in shades of pastel and metallic to create a pretty picture. Besides opting for sheer fabrics, you can keep things translucent by going the lace or crochet way. Solid tops and high neck collars can be the perfect companions. Accessorise in a simple manner. Following this trend may not be a cakewalk, but once you master it, you will be a classic scene stealer,” says designer Mandira Wirk
Crop Cut
Crop pants have a boyish charm that fits well on feminine form. Michael Kors and DKNY and Victoria Beckham with her ivory and black culottes have held the cropped baton for S-S-14.
According to designer Raakesh Agarvwal, “Rely on single tones to bring out the best effect. But if you can’t resist prints stick to geometric and graphical designs. Keep the cuts clean and fluid, while the tops can range from bustier to shell tops and halter necks.”
Palazzo Panache
Palazzo have arrived at the right time and the right season. The best part is, the expansion scheme got a stamp of approval from brand Armani which showcased them in their summer of 2014 collection.
“They come with guaranteed elegance and are effortlessly chic too. While my ultimate pick for a palazzo remains a single shade, introduce the print factor with animal or ethnic prints. And blue is the shade to explore here. Keep the top in body hugging or corset version,” says designer Rajat Tangri.
Slim Fit
The slim and skinfit silhouette have become everyone’s darling. “You can pair them with anything and they will still look absolutely good. Skin fits make the classic cut with élan and black enhances its beauty like no other. This is one style that will never fade away in the trend deluge, so make sure, you have at least one well fitted trouser in your wardrobe,” reasons designer Abhishek Dutta.
Fusion Feel
Pants as a Western concept has undergone huge transformation in current times. They are now modified for wider acceptability and are entering new territories. Designer Krishna Mehta introduced them as modern version of ghararas and shararas with cropped tops.
“Trousers paired with long tunics are not just trendy, they are smart replacement for the average salwars,” says designer Medhavini Agarwala.
